The Masked Singer season 14 winner has been crowned. The Fox competition series aired its season 14 finale on Wednesday, April 1, and the Golden Mask trophy went to Galaxy Girl—unmasked as pop star Ashlee Simpson Ross. “I did not think I was going to win,” she admitted to PEOPLE after her victory.

How Ashlee Simpson Ross Became The Masked Singer Season 14 Winner

Ashlee Simpson Ross unmasked as Galaxy Girl after winning The Masked Singer Season 14, holding the Golden Mask trophy.

The Masked Singer season 14 winner emerged after weeks of intense competition. Before the victory announcement, the “Pieces of Me” singer wowed judges Rita Ora, Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke, and Ken Jeong with performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” and Pink’s “Try” during the finale episode. Her sister Jessica Simpson joined her on stage before the unmasking, sharing a clue in the form of a book about the contestant’s life—an apparent reference to Ashlee’s 2004 debut album, Autobiography. The judges unanimously agreed Ashlee was behind the mask.

Ashlee won over runner-up Phillip Phillips, a past American Idol winner who performed as Pugcasso. Kylie Cantrall finished in third place as Cat Witch, followed by Normani as Crane.

I Dropped to My Knees’: The Masked Singer Season 14 Winner Reacts

The Masked Singer season 14 winner couldn’t believe she made it to the end. “She had no idea that I was going to get so into this competition and so competitive,” Ashlee told PEOPLE. “I was having the time of my life. I definitely did not think I was going to win, but I was like, ‘I’m here to fight, and I’m going to try.’ And my last song was ‘Try.’ But the second they said I won, I dropped to my knees, because I didn’t expect it.”

The competition became a family affair. Her husband Evan Ross competed as Stingray earlier in the season and was eliminated in week 10. “He killed it,” Ashlee said. “He really had the moves.”

The Masked Singer Season 14 Winner on Performing in Disguise

The Masked Singer season 14 winner found freedom behind the mask. “I think just becoming that character of Galaxy Girl and people not knowing who I was, it was just a different way of performing,” she explained. “I enjoyed that. It was definitely a moment of discovery.”

The experience required unexpected preparation. “You kind of have to keep your makeup going to look good under that mask, because you don’t know what day you’re leaving,” Ashlee revealed. “You really get nervous. I was like, ‘Okay, did I do okay? I don’t know.'”

Jessica Simpson’s Supportive Appearance

The Masked Singer season 14 winner had her biggest cheerleader in the audience. “It was amazing to have her there — so exciting,” Ashlee said of her sister Jessica. “She knew how hard I had been working, and it was like Masked Singer bootcamp. A lot of work goes into this show. Just to have her there rooting me on was really exciting. And my daughter was there as well.”

What’s Next for The Masked Singer Season 14 Winner

The Masked Singer season 14 winner is ready for more. Ashlee recently completed her first Las Vegas residency and has upcoming performances at Stagecoach and OUTLOUD Music Festival at WeHo Pride in Los Angeles.

“New music is definitely to come,” she teased. “I want to dip my toes back into acting as well, and I’d love to do some musical theater, but just to definitely keep going, performing, and doing what I love doing.”
